Tour starts in charming Croatia’s capital, Zagreb, whereas the end point of our Balkan sightseeing experience is in the incredibly beautiful North Macedonia capital, Skopje.

Itinerary

The Balkan tour is a truly unparalleled journey through the rich and diverse cultures of the Balkans. The tour begins in the historic and vibrant city of Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. At the Zagreb Airport, you will be picked up by our tour guide. Zagreb is known for its stunning architecturerich history, and vibrant culture. Absolute must-see things in Zagreb include Kaptol and Gradec Old town, Cathedral Dolac marketplace, Blood bridge, Stone gates, St Mark Church, and Ban Jelacic square. As for the museums and galleries, our recommendation is the Technical museum of Nikola Tesla and the Croatian Museum of Naive Art, as well as the Museum of Chocolate. The day ends with a relaxing dinner at a hotel and free time to explore the city.

The journey from Zagreb to Bihać via Plitvice Lakes is a perfect blend of cultural exploration and breathtaking nature. Departing from Croatia’s vibrant capital, Zagreb, you will travel through scenic landscapes toward one of Europe’s most stunning natural wonders—Plitvice Lakes National Park. This UNESCO World Heritage site is famous for its cascading waterfalls, turquoise lakes interconnected by wooden walkways, and lush greenery that changes its charm with every season. You will have the opportunity to explore its mesmerizing trails, witness the harmony of water and nature, and capture unforgettable moments. The journey continues toward Bihać, a charming town in Bosnia and Herzegovina, located on the banks of the emerald-green Una River.

Today, our journey will take us to discover the natural, cultural, and historical treasures of northern Bosnia. Our first stop is Ostrožac Castle, a magnificent 16th-century fortress that boasts impressive architecture, towering walls, and rich historical significance. As you explore its grounds, you’ll be captivated by the castle’s fascinating past and the breathtaking panoramic views it offers of the Una River and surrounding mountains.

Next, we head to the Japodski Islands, a true gem of nature and a perfect place to unwind while admiring the serene beauty of the Una River. Five wooden bridges elegantly connect five river islets, creating a stunning aerial view that resembles the “heart of nature.”

Our adventure continues to the National Park Una, where the rivers Una, Unac, and Krka converge, forming an extraordinary landscape of untouched beauty. Here, we’ll visit Štrbački Buk, the park’s tallest and most spectacular waterfall, standing at 24.5 meters. The sight and sound of the cascading water create an awe-inspiring natural spectacle, offering an unforgettable experience.

We then make our way to Martin Brod, home to the largest waterfall on the Una River. Over a 54-meter-high travertine barrier, the river cascades across a 100-meter stretch, creating a breathtaking scene that has long captivated nature lovers.

After a day filled with exploration and stunning scenery, we return to the hotel. In the evening, you’ll have free time to take a leisurely stroll through the charming city center of Bihać.

As the dawn of the third day rises, the Balkan tour continues on to Travnik and Jajce. Both of these two cities are absolutely gorgeous and full of rich history that includes a period of the Bosnian Kingdom as well as the Ottoman period. In the town of Jajce, we visit Pliva lakes, wooden watermills, and the beautiful Pliva waterfall in the city center looking at the medieval fortress, as well as the medieval catacombs. Must-see sights in Travnik include the beautiful Old Town Travnik and the historic Travnik Ornamented Mosque. From Travnik and Jajce, the tour continues to Sarajevo, the capital and largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Sarajevo is a vibrant and historic city known for its stunning architecture, rich history, and diverse culture. The fourth day of our Balkan tour is reserved specifically for the exploration of this magnificent city.

On the Balkan tour you will have an opportunity to visit gorgeous cities and places but none of them is as vibrant or gorgeous as Sarajevo. This place is a meeting of various cultures and religions. After breakfast, you will have an opportunity to see the city’s Old Town on a walking tour with highlights that include Sebilj fountainCity HallGazi Husrev-bey’s mosqueSacred Heart CathedralJewish SynagogueOld Orthodox Church, the oldest street in the city Kazandžiluk, and of course the place of archduke Franz Ferdinand’s Assassination – The Latin Bridge. After lunch, you can rest in nature a bit while visiting the Springs of River Bosna. One of the unavoidable attractions is The Tunnel of Hope, where you can see some original audio and photo exhibitions related to the ’90s war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. From Sarajevo, the tour heads to Mostar, a charming and historic city located in the heart of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mostar is known for its stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. On the road to Mostar, we will make two stops in Konjic and Jablanica for pictures. Also, after we arrive in Mostar, we stop in the medieval stone town Počitelj and Buna river springs in Blagaj village for lunch. In Mostar, we have a guided walking tour visiting the crooked bridge, The Old Bridge Mostar, Coppersmiths, and Koski Mehmet Pasha mosque. Next, the tour continues to Neum, a city located on the beautiful Adriatic coast of Bosnia and Herzegovina, known for its stunning natural beauty. Some of the must-see sights in Neum include the beautiful St. Peter’s Church, the historic Neum Castle, and the stunning Neum Beach. Dinner will be served at the hotel.

From Neum, the tour continues to Dubrovnik, a stunning and historic city located on the beautiful Adriatic coast of Croatia. Dubrovnik is known for its stunning architecture, rich history, and vibrant culture. Some of the must-see sights in Dubrovnik include Stradun – the most famous street in Dubrovnik, the beautiful Dubrovnik Cathedral of the AssumptionThe Walls of Dubrovnik, and the stunning Dubrovnik Beach – Banje. Next, the tour heads to Kotor, a charming and historic city located on the beautiful Adriatic coast of Montenegro. Kotor is known for its stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. Some must-see sights in Kotor include the beautiful Kotor Cathedral, the historic Kotor Castle, and the stunning Kotor Beach. From Kotor, the tour continues to Budva for an overnight stay. Budva is one gorgeous city on the Adriatic coast of Montenegro. It is known for its absolutely stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. When it comes to sightseeing in Budva, you should absolutely see Budva Cathedral and of course the Budva Beach.

After Breakfast: We begin our journey with a visit to Lake Skadar, the largest lake in the Balkans, stretching across both Montenegro and Albania. Named after the Albanian town of Shkodër, this extraordinary lake is a haven for nearly 270 bird species, including the rare Dalmatian pelican, which serves as its emblem.

Beyond its diverse native birdlife, Lake Skadar is also a crucial stopover for migratory birds, making it a true paradise for birdwatchers who travel from all over the world to witness its avian wonders. We’ll take a short break here, giving you time to absorb the peaceful beauty of this natural sanctuary before crossing into Albania.

Our journey then takes us to the historic town of Krujë, nestled in the foothills of the Albanian Alps. A symbol of national pride, Krujë was the stronghold of Albanian resistance against the Ottoman Empire. Here, you’ll have the chance to explore the town’s quaint center, stroll through one of Albania’s oldest bazaars, and visit the remarkable Krujë Castle, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes.

Following our time in Krujë, we continue to Albania’s dynamic capital, Tirana, arriving in the late afternoon. The rest of the day is yours to explore the city at your leisure, discovering its vibrant atmosphere, historic sites, and cultural highlights.

Today, after breakfast, we will set off on an exciting journey to Tirana, the capital and largest city of Albania. This dynamic and colorful city offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and modern charm.

Upon arrival, we will embark on a fascinating walking and panoramic tour, exploring some of Tirana’s most iconic landmarks. Our highlights will include Skanderbeg Square, the heart of the city, surrounded by important buildings and monuments; the beautifully restored Et’hem Bey Mosque, a symbol of Albania’s rich Ottoman heritage; and Mother Teresa Square, dedicated to the country’s most famous humanitarian.

As we continue our exploration, we will discover remnants of Albania’s communist past, including the intriguing bunkers scattered throughout the city and the striking Piramida, a controversial structure once built as a museum for the former dictator Enver Hoxha. We will also pass by the grand Opera House, a cultural hub for music and performances, and stroll along the city’s main boulevard, lined with significant government buildings, museums, and lively cafes.

Tirana is a city full of contrasts, where history meets modernity, and vibrant street life blends with fascinating architecture. Whether it’s the historical landmarks, the artistic atmosphere, or the lively local culture, this city promises a memorable experience for every visitor.  Overnight in Tirana.
