Starting from charming Ljubljana and beautiful Bled Lake in Slovenia, through Croatia’s capital, Zagreb, down to Croatian coast – Split and Dubrovnik with excursions to enchanting Mostar and beautiful Montenegrin coast towns – Budva and Kotor we will discover rich history and culture, religious diversities and amazing architecture.
This 8-day trip will certainly be an unforgettable experience.
You will start exploring the Balkans in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. After arrival in Ljubljana, we will welcome you to the airport and check-in at the hotel. Overnight in Ljubljana.
After breakfast, we will have the Ljubljana Walking Tour. Ljubljana Old Town is absolutely stunning, especially Ljubljana Cathedral whose twin towers loom over the city. The Ljubljana Castle is situated on a hill overlooking the river.
Those places are amazing for taking photos. Later we will proceed to Lake Bled, near the Austrian and Italian borders. Here you will visit Bled Castle, the oldest medieval fortress in Slovenia and the former seat of the Bishops of Brixen. After that, we will return to Ljubljana. Overnight in Ljubljana.
Today we will proceed to Zagreb. Zagreb is the capital of Croatia, another beautiful country in the Balkans. After hotel check-in, we will proceed to the modern centre of Zagreb (named Lower Town) and visit its most prominent sites and amenities like Ban Jelacic Square, Croatian National Theatre and Museum of Arts.
Later we will proceed to the older part of Zagreb, named Upper Town for nice walking. Overnight in Zagreb.
After the breakfast and hotel check-out in Zagreb, we will proceed to Plitvice Lakes, one of the most beautiful nature parks and waterfalls in the world. Plitvice Lakes are part of UNESCO’s World Natural Heritage.
This amazing nature amphitheatre is made of 5 miles of turquoise lakes and waterfalls among beautiful forests. After those beautiful nature sceneries, we will proceed to Split. Before arrival in Split, we will make a stop in Trogir where you will see beautiful historical buildings like St.Lawrence Cathedral with its amazing Romanesque portal from the 13th century.
Also, we will see the Old City Hall from the 15th century and the Kamerlengo tower. Then we will continue to Split. Overnight in Split.
In the morning we will check out from the hotel and proceed to the most beautiful city in the southern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina – Mostar. Mostar was one of the most destroyed cities during the war in Bosnia, but even today it has enough preserved architecture that speaks to the rich cultural past of this city.
Your guide will accompany you to the Old Town. The Bridge was built-in 1566 according to plans of Hayruddin, the great Turkish builder of the 16th c. It has been entered UNESCO’s World Heritage List. We will also see Hamam – Turkish bath, the only Turkish bath still existing in Mostar and one of the few remaining examples in the whole of Herzegovina.
We will not miss to show you the Crooked Bridge, Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque and the Old Bazaar. Free time in Mostar. Overnight in Mostar.
After breakfast, we will check out from the hotel and proceed to Dubrovnik. On the way, we will make a stop in Pocitelj, the stepped Ottoman-era fortress village of Pocitelj. It is a medieval and Ottoman-Mediterranean wonder of nature and architecture, a place like no other.
Cupped in a steep rocky amphitheatre, it’s a warren of stairways climbing between ramshackle stone-roofed houses and pomegranate bushes. Later we will arrive in Dubrovnik whose old part of the city is surrounded by city walls over a mile in length.
There is also a tower in each corner. Besides the walls, we will see Sponze Plaza, Orlando’s Columns and other interesting sites in this enchanting city. Overnight in Dubrovnik.
This day in exploring the Balkans is reserved for a full-day excursion to Montenegro. Montenegro is another Balkan country with a very long and interesting history. Firstly, we will arrive at Kotor. You will see its beautiful architecture and a mix of different time epochs.
We will visit the Cathedral of St. Trifun, one of the most recognizable symbols of the town, It dates from Roman culture. There is also the Maritime Museum that we can visit (optional). Later we proceed to Budva, one of the oldest towns on the Adriatic coast.
You will walk through the town whose history dates from the 15th century. After these walking tours, we will proceed back to Dubrovnik. Overnight in Dubrovnik.
After breakfast and hotel check-out in Dubrovnik, you will have a transfer to the Airport/bus station. End of this amazing journey in the Balkans for this time.Â
