The Olympic Mountains tour begins with a panoramic drive from Sarajevo, offering beautiful views over the city, once known as the host of the 1984 Winter Olympic Games. Your guide will share stories about the Olympics, the athletes, and the events that made Sarajevo one of the most memorable hosts in Winter Games history.
The first stop is Trebević Mountain, one of the most famous Olympic mountains surrounding Sarajevo. Known for the bobsleigh and luge competitions of the 1984 Olympics, Trebević is today one of the city’s most visited attractions.
You can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Sarajevo and explore the abandoned Olympic bobsleigh track, now covered in colourful graffiti — a fascinating blend of history and modern urban art.
The mountain is connected to the city by a cable car, originally destroyed during the war and beautifully reconstructed in 2019.
Next, the Olympic Mountains tour continues to Bjelašnica Mountain, the highest peak of the Dinaric Alps in central Bosnia. This mountain hosted alpine skiing events during the 1984 Winter Olympics and remains Bosnia’s best ski resort today.
You’ll have time to enjoy the crisp mountain air, take photos of the alpine landscape, or relax with a warm cup of tea in one of the cosy mountain lodges. In winter, the slopes of Bjelašnica come alive with skiers and snowboarders, while in summer they’re perfect for hiking and scenic walks.
The Olympic Mountains tour continues to Igman Mountain, another key site from the 1984 Winter Olympics. This mountain hosted Nordic skiing, biathlon, and ski jumping competitions. The original ski jump ramps are still standing today as a reminder of Sarajevo’s Olympic heritage.
Igman is also known for its untouched forests and fresh air — a perfect place to reconnect with nature and reflect on the city’s sporting past.
The final stop of the tour is the Spring of River Bosna (Vrelo Bosne), one of the most beautiful natural sites near Sarajevo. This green oasis, surrounded by water streams, small bridges, and swans, is a favourite place for both locals and visitors.
Optionally, you can take a horse carriage ride through the famous oak alley lined with villas from the Austro-Hungarian period. It’s the perfect relaxing ending to your Olympic Mountains day trip.
After a full day of nature, history, and Olympic spirit, you’ll return to Sarajevo with unforgettable memories of the mountains that shaped Bosnia’s Olympic legacy.
