Yugoslav classic car tour itinerary

Description

Admittedly, the golden age of Sarajevo is considered the 16th and 17th centuries when the city became one of the leading centres of trade in the Balkans—the 20th century brought modernization. After WWII Sarajevo found itself in a communist state of Yugoslavia. The population of the city started increasing rapidly. Whole neighbourhoods and building blocks were constructed in typical socialist styles of architecture.

First off, starting from our office we drive towards the Olympic Complex which was built for the 1984 Winter Olympic Games. Above all, it represents the proudest moment in the modern history of Sarajevo. There we will visit the Olympic Games Museum situated in the Olympic Hall, once used for figure skating and ice hockey. Next, on our way to New Sarajevo, we will be able to see Ciglane, a socialist neighbourhood of Sarajevo representing modern social architecture.

Then, we continue towards the western part of Sarajevo which was mostly built during the Communist period. We’re passing next to the military barracks “Marshal Tito”. Notably, it is one of the largest military compounds in the former Yugoslavia. Large parts of them are these days used by the University of Sarajevo.

Later on, the tour proceeds to the Vraca Memorial Park commemorating the World War II victims of Sarajevo. It contains a fortress, statues and marble plates with names of different partisan brigades, as well as the terms of the victims of Sarajevo.

Feel the Spirit of Yugoslavia

Indeed, many people of the former Yugoslavia still have pleasant memories and positive things to say about their former country. Hence, there is even a term for Yugo-nostalgia. Lastly, we will finish the tour in Tito Cafe where people who are Yugo-nostalgic can share their stories in a Yugo-friendly environment. Join our Yugoslav Classic Car Tour and feel the spirit of former Yugoslavia.

What a tour! Driving around in a Zastava 101 waving a Yugoslavian flag in Sarajevo was really memorable. And a great way of getting in contact with the locals. Edin is a knowledgeable guide with many good stories to tell so don’t miss this one!

We took the Yugoslav Classic Tour and really enjoyed it. The tour took us through large parts of the city and Edin, the tour guide, really gave us an excellent overview of the rich history of the city when it was still Yugoslavia. It was also excellent that we could ask lots of other questions about Sarajevo that he answered as well. He really took his time, had a coffee with us at the end and drove us back home. He was really enthusiastic for the whole time, which created a great atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this tour.
