About Sarajevo Siege
In the last hundred years, three times Sarajevo was the centre of the world. The first time was in 1914 when the Assassination that caused the First World War happened here. The second time was in 1984 when Sarajevo hosted XIV Winter Olympic Games in communist Yugoslavia.
And the third time was just 8 years later when the war started in Bosnia and Herzegovina which brought the world the longest siege in modern warfare i.e. the Siege of Sarajevo, and hence the name Sarajevo siege tour.

On 04 July 2024 I went on a 4-hour minibus tour in Sarajevo about the war in former Yugoslavia.
The tour is totally recommendable. The best thing was the guide, I think his name is Armi and he was outstanding. Besides being very entertaining, he told us anecdotes that he knew from relatives and impressions of how it was lived and how it is remembered now that you can’t find in books.

All around great tour agency. We did the free walking tour with Edin who gave us a deep dive of the meeting of cultures that occurred in Sarajevo. The Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian influences were truly fascinating. We even ended up eating at his father’s restaurant (called Nune – highly recommend for meat lovers). It was pouring rain after the tour, so the lovely lady at the reception allowed us to borrow an umbrella and give it back the next day. The quality of the service convinced us to take the fall of Yugoslavia paying tour with Almir. Almir, if you read this, thank you for sharing these personal stories. Almir fought during the siege of Sarajevo and was able to provide us with his unique and captivating first hand experiences. You cannot find these stories on the internet. Almir was able to make us laugh despite sharing some touching but tough stories. We are from Canada, so we were not at all aware of the Balkan wars. This made me want to learn more. Will definitely go back to Sarajevo. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

It is very rare you get to experience a tour like this and I feel very privileged to spend time with our guide Almir.
Be prepared for a lot of information because the history is complex and long. However the personal the stories like of our guides (I won’t share here as I couldn’t do it justice and time it deserves) are something you can easily understand and really ground the story.
This is not just a serious tour though as there’s a nice mix of humour and enjoying the beautiful landscape.
Bosnia is a special place and I already want to come back!

Generally, I am not a group tour person, but I am really happy I did the Fall of Yugaoslavia tour with Meet Bosnia. Our guide, Ejub, delivered a personal perspective on the subject having been born during the war and having lost many family members to it. He made sure everyone in our group felt included in making decisions and continually checked to make sure he was holding our attention when discussing a long and difficult subject. While at the Tunnel of Hope, maps were used to visually describe the war and different areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina, giving a better understanding of the divisions within the country. At the Bobsled track, a few people in my group and I wandered a little too far down the track, but Ejub was able to find us quickly and get us back to the city on time. I highly recommend this group tour for everyone, as having a such a passionate local guide, like Ejub, offers an invaluable perspective into the war.
